Milk for Cats
Travel back in time with me to the wild years of 2014, where I was commissioned to illustrate the promotional imagery for a new music night in Leeds “Milk for Cats”.
Milk for Cats, a new independent music night, served as a stage for both established music acts as well emerging talents. Looking for promotional material to advertise upcoming events, the consensus was to aim for a grungy, dirt-under-the-fingernails feel loaded with attitude and a touch of darkness to boot.
After some playful exploration, I came to the final design of a pussycat licking his milk moustache. At the time, I was deeply engrossed in the art of hand-drawing every element and then scanning into the computer. Among my initial sketches lay a daring, provocative proposition filled with unabashed innuendo. Maybe a bit overboard but I loved it then and I still do now.
Today, nearly a decade later, I contemplate how I would tackle this brief today. Despite my youthful inexperience and fledging abilities at the time, it is a project I’m pleased to include in my portfolio - one that I wouldn’t change. Tracing the steps of my professional and artist climb is both gratifying and humbling.
