Love, on Wheels

During lockdown I was approached by Liv, to craft a heartfelt wedding present for her brother, Will, and soon-to-be spouse, Sarah. Liv had a specific style in mind and I was all too keen to try my hand at this novel line art technique. I referenced submitted photographs and applied realistic digital colouring techniques for a handsome, handmade quality. Upon posting the final piece to my socials (making sure to do so after the gift had been delivered) I received inquiries to create more pieces, for a few more wheel-based wanderers, looking to immortalise their cherished vehicles in a similar fashion.

Some submitted images presented their own challenges - sections of the vehicles were cropped, leaving vital details like the front and rear in obscurity. Through some artistic sleuthing, I pieced together the missing anatomy ensuring that Make and Model were clear for all to see, being sure to include any identifying marks that made their motor unique, such as scrapes, stickers or body modifications.

It was a fun experiment, recreating couple’s beloved adventure vehicles, refining the details down in this limited style, whilst retaining the most distinctive and personable features. My engine revved, knowing that these art pieces would adorn the homes of happy couples, a constant reminder of their shared love and wanderlust.

Here’s another similar piece that, although the motor theme present among the previous commissions is absent, captures the client’s joy and whimsy present during a fancy-dress party.
