Little Bao Boy

James and Jay, the dynamic duo behind Little Bao Boy, approached me to create a piece of art to promote their business, destined for T-shirts and merchandise. Their vision was colossal - a gargantuan, Godzilla sized incarnation of their beloved mascot, the Little Bao Boy, making a playful rampage through a sprawling cityscape.

This project unfolded as an attractive opportunity to explore different experiments in perspective and sketching techniques. I embraced the chance to flex my illustrative muscles, taking the Little Bao Boy from a happy faced, innocent character and into an inescapable, ground-shaking force of nature, complete with sriracha laser-vision and pop-art inspired polka dot shading.

As preparation for the piece, I sketched out a variety of versions of the Little Bao Boy. This process allowed me to better understand his weight, movement and other physical nuances. How would his oversized head move, balancing upon his smaller body, especially considering there was a few megatons of force being pumped from his cute little eye holes?

This was the first time my work adorned shirts and prints, in a a limited run, which served as a catalyst; feeding my desire to continue illustrating in the future. From initial vision to the final brushstroke, it was a pleasure to bring the Little Bao Boy to life in all his city-stomping glory.

Working with the delightful Little Bao Boy mascot was a blast, and it sparked my creative spirit. I couldn’t resist creating some Halloween-themed designs for Jay and James, perfect for sharing on their social platforms when the bewitching season arrived.

I believe that the allure of these variations on the Little Bao Boy character lies in their ability to blend seemingly opposing qualities into a single, captivating image. This intriguing fusion of contrasts creates a unique and memorable character, one that resonates with audiences and leaves a lasting impression.
