Woodworks
Studio

THE BRIEF

Woodworks Studio hammer out everything from domestic decking, reflooring jiu jitsu gyms and even building entire studio stages for Netflix. If it can be built, they can make it happen. Joe from Woodworks Studio needed a logo that communicated reliability, a professional work ethic and subtlety referencing his trade.

THE SOLUTION

After playing with a number of ideas including negative space and encorporating drill bits, saws, hammers and a plethora of other tools and woodwork paraphernalia, ultimately it came down to simple boxes.

Solid and structurally sound - a box signifies hidden possibilities within a solid, protected border. A well made box can last a lifetime and Woodworks Studio can deliver everything - be it as complicated as a multi-floor work space or a simple yet quality crafted bit of cladding.

I originally proposed a singular box, with the interior corners (in white) portraying a rudimentary “W” and the enclosing frame, an “S”. With this in mind, Joe’s eye strayed to a variation on this design; two boxes adjacent, merged at the “join”, forming a “W” and sacrificing the “S” element entirely. This design wasn’t as uniform (a touch more horizontal in length) but with some adjustment and careful typemark play, a logo was created that would fulfil Woodwork Studio’s needs; on use on business cards, uniforms, vehicles and much more.
